For people who remember film photography, Tiffen is known for filters. Real glass filters, round colored discs that attached to your camera lens, for example for darkening the sky in a black and white photo. Ask Ansel Adams if you’re curious. In today’s digital world, Tiffen still sells photographic accessories, but it also has a vibrant line of apps, include Photo FX Ultra for the iPad. The app is easy to use, yet powerful. You can do standard things like crop or adjust tonal range, but you there are also lots of presets that let you do more advanced things, like vignettes or artistic color adjustments. The program is based on a layering scheme, so you can use several effects on a single image. The iPad is a great camera; its the one that’s always with you. And the results are even more impressive when you exercise creative control after the snap, to hone your creative vision.
