Developer’s description: gwabbit for BlackBerry smartphones joins the award-winning gwabbit for Outlook, as an automatic email contact management solution for both desktops and mobile phones. Gwabbit scans incoming BlackBerry emails, finds contacts, and instantly transforms them into contact records within your Outlook address book - all with a single mouse click. gwabbit even checks your address book to see if you’ve already saved a contact before re-prompting you to “gwab” it again.

Pros: If “who you know” is part of your job, you’ll love this. No more cutting and pasting addresses into Outlook. Gwabbit recognizes just about every weird address — even those long ones with the names of every site the contact mentions.

Cons: The app sometimes prompts you for a contact even if you have it already and sometimes mixes up fields when the address is complex.

I have gwabbit running on my outlook and BlackBerry. In a few words my gwabbit serves as an inexpensive frontline CRM option in managing my contacts. I tend to pull from my outlook contacts before using my CRM - for instance when I cant locate information for an old contact, an email address for a prospect or drumming up business w/ an outgoing e-newsletter.

Great concept but the folks at Copy2Contact do it way better. I tried Gwabbit when I saw this but I found all the popups annoying and it rarely got everything right. I had to comment because all the glowing reviews here seem a bit stilted. It IS a great idea but it's been done already. I'm gonna google around to see if anyone has reviewed both apps. Now that would be cool.

About

MOBILE APPS SHOWDOWN

spacer

The Mobile Apps Showdown is a fast-paced contest where you're asked to weigh in on the apps you think have what it takes to make it. For the months leading up to the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012) we'll be presenting the contestants to you. You can try them, watch demos, make your feelings known, and ultimately vote on a winner. We're platform agnostic, so if it's mobile it's in the competition.

The top ten apps will join us at CES 2012 for an action packed event hosted by Jon Hein and Gary Dell'Abate from the Howard Stern Show.

spacer

Robin Raskin, creator of the Mobile Apps Showdown, will be there to emcee events.

spacer

By the end of this year more than 7 billion apps will have been downloaded. Only you know which ones are the keepers.
